Introduction to CSS

This session introduces a grounded approach to CSS as a tool for shaping clear, navigable digital spaces. Rather than treating CSS as décor, the course focuses on how structure, spacing, hierarchy, and rhythm guide how people move through and understand a page, and how thoughtful styling can reduce confusion before it appears.

The session blends a short lecture with guided examples and discussion. Participants learn how to read and write CSS with intention, mapping a page as a spatial environment, establishing intuitive flow, and making styling decisions that support orientation rather than excess.

Throughout the session, we’ll examine common CSS patterns that create noise alongside quieter, more stable approaches that support focus and ease. The goal is not to prescribe an aesthetic, but to build literacy around how CSS choices affect usability, interpretation, and clarity.

Participants leave with a practical beginner’s framework applicable to personal projects, client work, or portfolio sites. No prior experience is required. This course is suited for anyone interested in using CSS to build simple, thoughtful digital spaces.
